During the past week Jeff had a visit from Tom McKibbin and got a chance to see all the trophies Tom won over the Christmas period, most notably the Junior Honda Classic (a very prestigious junior golf event).
Over the last couple of years Jeff from Alpha Physio has been one part of a team working with Tom, one of Northern Ireland’s most successful junior golfers. In the past year Tom who plays his golf at Holywood, Greenacres, Greenisland and Royal Portrush Golf Clubs has won 6 Junior golf titles, had 10 Top 5’s and 13 Top 10’s (he played 14 tournaments). Though Tom’s crowning achievement was most impressively becoming the Under 12’s World Champion in Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA last August.
Tom who is a pupil of Belfast Royal Academy (ironically Jeff and Stuart are both ex BRA pupils) has a goal of following fellow Northern Ireland golfer Rory McIlroy and being the number one golfer in the world one day. However Tom as an exceptionally pleasant, humble and modest young man recognises that it is not going to be easy but is determined to get there.
All young athletes hoping to make an impact on the world stage realise that having a good team around them they can trust is always of utmost importance. Tom’s team is headed by his father and mother, Robin and Sara and exceptional local golf coach Johnny Foster (who already coaches many well established European Tour Players). His team also consists of Derek Murray from Foregolf who custom fits all Tom’s clubs to very exact specifications. Physiotherapists, dieticians and strength and conditioning coaches are also cogs in the same machine.
Alpha Physio has been fortunate to work with such a talented young athlete and hopes to help Tom continue to achieve his domination in the world of golf.
